Entrepreneurship

Daniel at the Mt. Washington Stanbery Park Farmers market

“Entrepreneurship isn't for the faint at heart.” One must shape their own path, embark on that path ever reevaluating its course, gather information, establish inner workings and take on huge financial risks, all in the hopes of avoiding the fate that 80 to 90 percent of startups suffer….failure!!!

Daniel has been a part of this path we, the Daniel’s Dog Treats Team, have begun 4 years ago and is a proud young entrepreneur. He and the rest of the team have learned a few things about building a business these last few years. Here are a few key points.

Set a goal. This can be anything from a daily goal of completing a task or two or to setting monthly, quarterly or annual goals. Keep in mind that while aiming high do not make your goals unattainable, be realistic and reasonable but do challenge yourself.

Take a chance. There are times when an educated guess and taking a leap of faith is required to move forward. Fear of the unknown can be paralyzing which in turn can be detrimental to growth. Doing your “homework” and simply moving forward with your business concept.

Do not take no for an answer. Speaking of that fear and failed concepts. Vincent Van Gogh said, “If you hear a voice within you say, ‘You cannot paint’ then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced”. Failure is part of learning, it is your choice if you let it determine you to give up instead of using failure to improve your concept and try again, or as Daniel would quote Yoda, “Do or do not. There is no try”. So, pick yourself up with a can-do attitude and do not take no for an answer.

Never stop educating yourself and evaluate your strength and weaknesses. Monopolize the strengths of your team members and help them develop them to further improve the overall benefit of your business. Not everyone can be a business guru, not everyone can be financial wiz, etc. outsourcing is one option however why not cease an opportunity to enrich an already existing team member and keep it in house. Most, if not all, successful entrepreneurs, CEO’s and business owners will tell you they never stop educating themselves.

Take the time to breath. While reaching goals, completing tasks and racing towards that finish line is vital taking the time to relax is equally important. Stress is counterproductive and long term only hinders your personal and business growth. A happy workforce is statistically more productive so use this to your advantage. Have fun and work hard, nourish your mind and body, rest well and when all else fails just take a break to refocus.

And finally SMILE!!!! Through all the ups and downs on your path never forget to smile because no matter how difficult it may seem there is always an alternative route you can take to reach your goal.
